Super Bowl XLI was probably the most boring Super Bowl in recent memory. I didn’t even enjoy any of the commercials. It very well could have been because I don’t care for either team or every time I try to watch Rex Grossman play I feel there should be Benny Hill music playing in the background. Next year Grossman should be out of football and starring in his own Kevin Federline-like fry cook commercial. Prince’s halftime performance was the only highlight for me.

I’ve had a Nintendo Wii for about two weeks now and thought I would share some of my thoughts on this year’s big holiday gift.

The Interface

The Wii interface is clean and very simple to get around. When you turn on your console, you will be treated to the Wii Channels interface. Wii Channels are a series of icons designed to look like various TV stations. It features lots of ginormous aqua-like buttons — I’m guessing to help make aiming and getting around with the remote as easy as possible. It is a little overly cutesy, in my opinion, but Nintendo has always seemed to like that look.

The Controller

A lot has been said about Nintendo’s design for the new controller of the Wii. The Wiimote controller itself is comfortable to hold and is very sensitive to your movements. The speaker in the controller is also a nice touch. The controller should open up a world of opportunities to video game developers, but it will be interesting to see how many really try to take advantage of the Wii’s unique controller. If developers don’t fully embrace the Wiimote controller and optional Nunchuck Controller they both could become just another gimmick from Nintendo. Remember the Powerglove, and R.O.B?

The Games

This is really where the Wii shines, which is exactly where it should. Wii Sports, which comes bundled with the Wii is a compilation of five games that are all simple, intuitive and fun. Tennis, Bowling, and Baseball really stand out here. I’ve developed quite a nagging case of Wii elbow from marathon tennis sessions with friends. There really is nothing more ridiculous than seeing a room full of adults laughing and flailing around playing virtual sports. Wii Sports seems to have succeeded in it’s goal of sucking in even the non-gamer. This is the only game I’ve ever had that my mother, and even grandmother actually wanted to play and really enjoyed.

As for the other games I’ve played on the Wii, Excite Truck is so-so, and Zelda is…well…amazing! It is by far the best Zelda since Ocarina of Time, but don’t take my word for it check out what IGN had to say. The current Wii games won’t rock your world graphically, but are definitely fun and that is what it is all about in the end.

I wonder if (insert boy’s name here) really likes me. He never talks to me at school. Why are boys so mean? I mean life is soo hard, ya know? I got grounded for staying up late and talking to him on the phone until 2am, and he doesn’t even acknowledge me in the hallway! I mean, I can never tell if he likes me, and even if he tells me he likes me, I still can’t tell. I really hope he asks me to go to the Avril concert next weekend, and not that slut Katie. Avril rocks soo hard. She is soo punk rock! I bought a new outfit from Hot Topic with some babysitting money I saved up, for the concert. Well, I have a history test to study for next period. Wish me luck!

As awful as it may be to admit, I spend the majority of my day, reading various blogs. I, like everyone else check out Dooce, Kottke, and all the other A list blogs. I then make my way to all of the gallery sites to see what is going on with those. Afterwards I enjoy reading smaller, less mainstream blogs, but here lately I have been getting a little bored with the same ole, same ole. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the blogs I read, but recently I have just been searching to find something new. I just recently discovered Chris Glass’ website, and I am loving that. I’ve also been enjoying Phil Renaud’s site as well, but now I’m looking to you. I’m asking you, my faithful readers, to suggest some sites you enjoy. I’m looking for anything you might find interesting, be it design related, a personal blog, or something completely different. Help me become an even more unproductive!
