Since the 5th of this month I have been dealing with lots of server issues with the folks over at Dreamhost. They apparently had some trouble with the server where my WordPress database was located. It seems that during these troubles they managed to totally delete/overwrite/corrupt my database. After waiting for three days for them to fix the problem or at least use their most current backup from that server I decided to just use my most recent backup. Unfortunately my last backup was from February of this year, so I’m sure there will be lots of posts that are lost. I’ve been working to repost some of the more popular entries after digging around google’s cache. So expect some screwiness until I can clean up Dreamhost’s mess.
you can also try the Wayback Machine at http://www.archive.org/web/web.php The have a pretty decent cache and history of most websites. They even have the dates changes to the site were made.
That really sucks. I’ve seen a lot of people having problems with Dreamhost recently. I host some sites there, haven’t had any problems yet…I also host some at Bluehost, where there has also been some issues as of late, but still not much downtime for me. Hopefully you will be able to resolve everything soon.
I’m a DreamHost customer also, but thus far I’m yet to have any problems with any of my sites.
Not sure if you know, but WordPress 2.0 come with a plugin called “WordPress Database Backup” which can backup your database and email it to you, or store a copy on your server. Might be worth looking into for future reference.
When you resolve all the issues, maybe you may wanna think about switch to a different hosting company.
