Rolling Stone Rant

Let me begin by saying I had a subscription to Rolling Stone for almost 10 years. I had every single issue saved (in order) since then. I have just recently canceled my long running subscription to the magazine. The following reason, along with many others should prove why. The fools at Rolling Stone have compiled a list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Rolling Stone, not content with sending me 6 issues a year with that no-talent hack Britney Spears on the cover, decide to validate my cancelation of my subscription with this insane list. VAN MORRISON appears at 19, 10 places before the first Led Zeppelin album is even mentioned. Nirvana’s Nevermind of course is OVERrated at 17. Amercian Recordings at 364?! Disintergration at 326?! And, how did everyone’s favorite Swedish supergroup ABBA slide allll the way down to 180. Good god, this entire list is totally insane. I hope with all of my cold black heart that the Rolling Stone building burns to the ground killing all employees. What has happened to my once beloved Rolling Stone magazine?
(*Editor’s Note – The ABBA reference was sarcasm.)
I’m surprised they didn’t have ol’ Britney in the top 100!
I remember when VH1 had their Top 100 albums of all time a few years back. There were a lot of really crappy albums in their list too.
Trying to put the best albums of all time in order is something I find very hard to do. There are just so many factors. I think I would drive myself insane if someone asked me to name the top 10, much less the top 100 or top 500.
Did it say what methods they used to rank them? Record Sales? Industry Survey? Reader Survey?
I think I could agree with the top 10 though.
I remember that VH1 list. The problem with it was it was the greatest of the past 25 years, which would rule out a lot of the 70s (springsteen, zeppelin, etc.)
